Golden Globes: My Wish List

by nadine on January 17, 2010

First things first: I’m torn. I originally planned to watch 24 tonight. But I’m an award-show junkie. So do I watch it online later this week, instead? I think I might have to. Sorry, Francy. I will fall in love with Jack Bauer tomorrow. Good things come to those who wait, right? Right?

I was going to post my predictions for tonight’s awards, but realized it was pointless. Mostly because I was being really indecisive, but also because I’d end up doing it all over again in March. So I’ll save the nomination-breakdown post for the Oscars.

There are things I want to see happen tonight, sure. So this is more of a wish list than something I’d bet money on.

I want…

  • Ricky Gervais to make fun of pretty rich people.
  • Sandra Bullock to look smokin’ hot. (Ditto for Jon Hamm and Colin Firth.)
  • the heavens to open up and shine a light down on Meryl Streep. As per usual.
  • Kathryn Bigelow to win Best Director. (Not because she’s a girl. Because her movie was awesome.) And I want her to thank her ex-husband, James Cameron.
  • (500) Days of Summer to win best comedy.
  • to sell a script to Jason Reitman one day.
  • Neil Patrick Harris to be charming and hilarious.
  • the cast of Glee to sing to me.
  • Inglourious Basterd’s Christoph Waltz to toast with a glass of milk.
  • to be Tina Fey when I grow up.
  • Jeff Bridges to get a standing ovation.
  • the song “The Weary Kind” to move you to tears.
  • to see Un Prophete. Apparently it’s like a French Godfather.
  • “Holding Out For a Hero” to start playing if Kevin Bacon wins.
  • these dresses to show up. Either tonight or at the Oscars:

Come back later for a Golden Globes recap. Which will probably sound more like a Fashion Police post than a critique on the film industry. Because while awards are political and often don’t accurately reflect the year’s cinematic excellence, the dresses are always worth chatting about.

Oh, and a preemptive congrats to Scorsese. Cecil B. DeMille Award = deserved.
