YouTube Tuesday: New Favorites

by nadine on January 19, 2010

Motion City Soundtrack’s album “My Dinosaur Life” was released today.

One reviewer calls it a”scruffy, peppy, hopelessly likable major label debut.” I like those words. And I like the music even more. And the video has choreography! Just what the punk-pop kids (sans emo) have been needing.

Justin Pierre has the greatest hair ever.

Motion City Soundtrack: Her Words Destroyed My Planet

Maybe you were right after all
Maybe I’m just bad news
I’ve been drowning in memories
Call it residual booze
I fell asleep watching Veronica Mars again

Speaking of Veronica Mars….

Veronica Mars was created by a guy named Rob Thomas. He’s a brilliant man. BUT he’s not my favorite Rob Thomas. Not by a long shot.

This is my new favorite song. Even though it’s kind of old. It’s pretty much my interior monologue on beautifully exasperating days. With additional brass.

Matchbox Twenty: Black and White People

One more day down
Everybody has those days
Where one soft sweet song’s
Just enough to clear my head

And since we’re still hangin’ out with Rob….

I try not to live in that wishful-thinking head space. I know that the grass is never as green as it looks. And that all that glitters….

But while I refuse to pine for the perfect life, I also refuse to sentence myself to an eternity in one spot. Just because I can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel on dark days doesn’t dictate that I’ll still be sitting here, five years from now, working for free and wondering if I’ll ever buy a new cushion for this darn broken chair.

It’s okay to look forward with hope. Besides, I’m already living the dream “someday” I so desperately ached for one year ago. I’m blessed.

Plus this video makes me smile.

Rob Thomas: Someday

‘Cuz sometimes we don’t really notice
Just how good it can get
So maybe we should start all over
Start all over, again

I did start all over. And it’s getting good….
